Hydraulic systems: what is it and what does it consist of?

Hydraulic systems are found in many places. They are used in cars, construction systems, buildings and manufacturing places. And it’s those hydraulic systems that are one of the most practical ways of generating movement when it comes to loads with a considerable high weight or if a movement that is repeated with constancy is required. In today’s article, we will make a brief analysis of what a hydraulic system is, and what its types and functions are.

What is a hydraulic system?

These types of systems use a pressurized liquid to generate an impulse in a piece of equipment or to promote the movement of components of a mechanical nature. Hydraulic systems that -nowadays- can be found in the markets respond to a wide variety of applications that consist of assembly applications (simple processes), even operations that concern the integration of paper and steel.

What are the functions of hydraulic systems?

The objective of each hydraulic system could vary according to the purpose for which it is used. But they all share the same basic concept. These systems work by making assignments through the use of a fluid under pressure. In easy words: the pressurized fluid allows the system to function correctly.

One of its characteristics is that the pressure applied to a liquid within the same pump, must be transmitted without reducing its power. In this way, the pressurized fluid creates a force capable of lifting loads or performing tasks that are repeated with great ease and speed.

Hydraulic circuits

When moving liquids through a conglomerate of components that are connected to each other, the hydraulic circuits are capable of regulating the pressure and where the liquid flows.

As in the electrical circuit theory, a hydraulic circuit system works using linear elements.

Hydraulic bombs

Through the use of flow and pressure from a hydraulic pump, mechanical energy is converted into hydraulic energy. These work by opening an empty space at the beginning of the pump, exerting force on the liquid inside.

The mechanical force, for its part, diverts the fluid to the pump outlet and, at the same time, directs it to the hydraulic system.

What is the difference between open and closed hydraulic systems?

Specifically, both types of systems are oriented to establish different ways to reduce the pressure to the pump. This helps reduce any chance of wastage.

In the case of open systems, the pump is working, moving oil through the hoses, but without accumulating pressure. The return valve and the pump inlet are connected to a hydraulic reservoir. In this way, the fluid returns hydraulically to the tank, passing through the filters, that is so necessary.

In the case of closed systems, the return valve is connected directly to the pump inlet. Here, a single central pump is used to move the fluid in a continuous circuit.
